Halloween can be a fun time of year for everyone, but it can also be dangerous without proper precautions. Here are some safety tips for those choosing to go out.
- Drink responsibly: If and when you go out drinking, make sure you have a designated driver and know when to stop drinking. Getting blackout drunk is not fun and you don’t need to do so in order to have a fun time. Drink only what you mix yourself or a trusted individual mixes for you. Don’t let strangers get you drinks, or drink something you have left unattended. Someone with ulterior motives may put unwanted chemicals into your beverage – even a non- alcoholic one. It’s better to get a new drink than to drink something that has been tampered with.

- Appropriate costumes: Make sure to wear appropriate costumes at public parties. That means follow local dress laws and regulations and allow for easy maneuverability.
- Group up: Always travel with someone else, especially if you go to a large party. As well as have a designated meeting place for if you get separated.
- With kids: For those of you with kids that will not be attending parties, here are a few tips as stated by the American Academy of Pediatrics:
- Wear reflective clothing.
- Use flashlights.
- Never leave your child unattended.
- Check candy for contamination and allergens.
- Conserve candy, don’t let them binge.
- Stay in areas you know well.
- Avoid costumes that may obstruct vision.
