On Aug 30, the “Races at Fair Hill” reopened to the public for the first time since 2019, allowing people to come witness racehorses from around the world first hand. This comes following an extended pause due to both the covid-19 pandemic and construction.
The first race of the day was met with a dominant performance from racehorse number one, De La Cruz, who remained in the lead throughout the race. During the second race of the day, excitement abounded when racehorse number four, Fiery Dart, rocketed to the lead on the final straight of the race.
The “Races at Fair Hill” event marks the return for more like it in the future. According to a quote from Governor Wes Moore, he hopes that hosting regular events will spark interest in horse racing and improve the local economy by “support[ing] Maryland’s tourism and agriculture economies.”
Indeed, Maryland’s tourism industry is likely to see an increase in revenue as a result of the various competitors and spectators that come to the races. On Aug 30 there were racehorses and trainers from as far as Ireland and Australia, who brought in crowds from the neighboring states to watch and bet on the races.
Starting on Oct 16, 2025, and continuing to Oct 19, 2025, Fair Hill will be hosting its 5th five star horse competition under the Fair Hill international branding.
This larger event is one of only two such events in the United States and one of seven in the world. There will be three separate competitions: one for dressage, one for cross country, and one for show jumping.
While the “Races at Fair Hill” event was open to the public and marked the return of public racing to the Fair Hill racecourse, the “Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill” event is selling tickets for those who wish to attend with advance pricing until Oct 15.
